Once upon a time a college degree was considered a must-have, but these days plenty of people have built their wealth with little more than a good idea or strategy. More often than not success is not so much about book smarts as it is about being street savvy. So here are some tips on how to make money without a college degree.
Building a business
Some of the world’s wealthiest people started out with little more than grit, determination and the will to succeed. The list of successful business people who did not obtain a degree at college is lengthy and includes such esteemed members as Virgin Records and Airlines founder Sir Richard Branson, Dell CEO and founder Michael Dell, and Microsoft founder Bill Gates, who dropped out of Harvard.
The things these people have in common are good ideas and the willingness to execute them, even when going against societal norms.
If you’re more about improving than inventing, there are also plenty of successful business people who have taken existing companies to new heights with their ability to read public sentiment and trends.
Share Trading
Many people have done very well trading on the stock exchange and with the Internet now allowing greater access to share trading, the potential is there to make some good money through share trading.
Trading is a about knowing trends and reading the feel of the marketplace, but there are plenty of companies to assist should you want to give it a go. It’s also easy to dabble in to get a feel for and there are some good resources such as a Forex trading course, run by the experts at Learn to Trade to get you started.
Harnessing your creativity
It’s something that definitely can’t be taught at college, but has certainly seen some people set up for life. Harnessing their inner creativity has driven the likes of rock bands, artists and individual product designers a long way. So if you have a unique talent or an outstanding creative ability it’s worth considering putting it to good use.
Creativity has given the world everything from music to art, and there are plenty of people in the fashion and food industries who have built empires on their creative abilities.
Simple ideas
Think Snuggies, pet rocks and slinkies – these simple and seemingly innocuous ideas made their creators very wealthy indeed, and they say there’s a good idea in everyone. That’s not to mention some of the internet start-up companies that have sprung up to connect people, such as Instagram and of course Facebook.
Making money isn’t limited to what school you attended or the connections you made. Nor is it solely reserved for those with a degree. The modern economy is open to all, whether they want to start a business, trade on the stock market, invest in property or have a great idea up their sleeve. It just takes a little experimentation and bravery to stick your toe in the water.
