Do you find yourself asking the question, “Is this all there is?” about your career?
Do you feel you don’t have enough time for yourself and no longer happy? Is your motivation running low?
Why not try freelancing instead?
Let’s face it. Freelancing isn’t easy and it requires a leap of faith. Getting out of your comfort zone is always difficult. You have to ask so many questions. Is it worth it? Am I not going to regret it? Am I ready to take the big leap?
Challenge yourself to step out of your habit and routine if you expect something to change or evolve in your life and career.
Now, is freelancing for you? Here are good reasons why you should consider freelancing.
Financial Rewards
You can earn much more in freelancing if you are focused and have a good marketing strategy. Income may exceed your corporate job. There are fewer expenses too since you no longer need to commute, or drive, or eat out. With higher pay, it is easier to establish your investment portfolio and be financially stable.
Skills Development
In a traditional job, you’re usually stuck in a particular set of tasks that restrict growth. In freelancing, it opens doors for lots of learning opportunities. Since freelancers are on their own, they have to keep themselves updated with the emerging market trends. They invest time and money to learn strategies and techniques to find clients.
By working with different clients, you develop various skills, wear different hats, and become exposed to different work cultures.
You Are Your Own Boss
Freelancing is managing your own business. You are the CEO of your own company. All the decision-making lies in your hands. You don’t have to report or explain to anyone else besides your client. You are responsible for all your actions and you have full control.
You can as well choose who you want to work with. If you encounter a rude client or someone whom your work principles and ethics don’t match with, you can easily turn the client down and proceed to other opportunities.
You set your own schedule.
You control your workload and you can limit clients if you wish to.
No Office Politics
Admit it.
You don’t want being bossed around especially when you know that you’re a lot better than your superiors. It’s common in an office setting to get promoted because of favoritism, credit grabbing and not because of qualification.
In freelancing, you get what you deserve. Clients will pay you according to the rates you set.
Flexibility
This is one of the best parts of freelancing. You are not confined inside the office to work continuously for eight hours. You can work from home at your own time. All you have to do is manage your deadlines and workload.
If you’re a parent, you can even do chores or take care of the kids in between client meetings.
You can schedule a family vacation without worrying if your boss would approve of it.
A Sense of Work Fulfillment
People with full-time jobs complain of their hectic schedules. Aside from their regular shifts and overtime, they still have to commute. Hours are wasted daily because of heavy traffics. The commute is often so tiring that when they do get home from work, they no longer have the energy to bond with their family.
It’s also a common concern among corporate employees their lack of motivation to work. Because of the daily repetitive work, they soon lose their spark.
With freelancing, you get to choose your working hours and projects that you’re passionate about. You have the choice to spend more time with yourself, family, and friends. You can take vacations without having the need to wait for the weekends or holidays.
Having more time for yourself means you have more opportunities to live healthier. You have more time to exercise and more time to sleep. You are better physically as you have the time and the means to fight stress from work. Thus giving you a more sense of fulfillment.
So are you up to experience the benefits and rewards of freelancing? Wouldn’t it be fun to work doing the things that you love?
