Routinely practicing gratitude can have a big impact on the success of your business. More than just a simple “thank you”, gratitude is as defined by gratitude researcher Robert Emmons as, “a felt sense of wonder, thankfulness, and appreciation for life.” This type of grateful thinking can be applied to your business as well. By expressing gratitude and relishing in the success of your business achievements you are setting yourself up for the growth and success you desire.
Benefits of gratitude
There are a wealth of benefits that come with being grateful. Increased energy, focus, and optimism to name a few. Most importantly, gratitude increases happiness which is a predictor in success. Think of gratitude as an advantage you can utilize to help you reach your business goals.
It’s important to practice gratitude regularly. There are many ways to practice gratitude. The best way is to find a method that you enjoy and will stick with for the long-term.
Gratitude Journal
Journaling is a very common and effective method to practice gratitude. Take a few minutes every day or every week to list out aspects of your business for which you feel grateful. Another approach to journaling is a gratitude calendar in which you list one thing you are grateful for each day. These things can be big or small, however it’s important to take the time to reflect on why they are meaningful for you and your business.
Visual Inspiration
Surround yourself with words, photos, and objects of gratitude where you do your work. Place these reminders where you will see them often. Choose items that inspire and motivate you. Create a vision board that lists your business goals along with positive reminders. Place your vision board where you will see it often. Take time to look at your vision board and visualize yourself achieving your business goals.
Express Appreciation
Say “Thank You” more often, either verbally or written. Express gratitude for the business you have, no matter the volume. Thank your clients, customers, and those in your business community. Take the time out to give meaningful and personal complements, too. Extending courtesies can help you stand out as well as build relationships that can turn into opportunities.
Take Time to Reflect
Take time to reflect on how far you have come with your business. Even if you have not reached your ultimate goals, be sure to celebrate those you have achieved regardless of size. Reflect on the struggles and challenges you have faced during your business venture as well. Recognize that although challenges are difficult, they also offer benefits. Think of the obstacles you have faced as opportunities to grow yourself and your capacity.
Gratitude can be a powerful tool in the success of your business. Once you are able to fully experience gratitude your motivation, energy, and creative will increase and take your business to the next level.

Not everything is about business. If you want a long term commitment from employees and customers they need to feel appreciated. You also need to be genuine as well not only expressing thanks but making sure it just isn’t in a staff meeting once a month. Customer service can be the difference when you are trying to stand out in the community. With social media and word of mouth being so important, you need to stand out in the world today.
