Experiencing aches and pains after a workout is normal, and often a sign you are pushing yourself to gain strength and build muscle. A common complaint from many gym goers is back pain, as many people enjoy back workouts or workouts that engage their core. Although pain after a workout is often nothing to worry about, it can still make it difficult for people to build or continue their workout routine as they might be hesitant to return to the gym while sore. Here are a few tips for easing upper and lower back pain after a tough day at the gym.
Stretch
Although it may sound like common sense, many people forget (or refuse) to fully stretch before or after a workout. Doing so might take up a little extra gym time, but stretching is the key to preventing soreness, especially from exercises that engage your back or core and could cause pain later on. Forward and backward stretches can relieve back pain.
Epsom Salt Bath
A great way to ease body aches and muscle pain is by soaking your body in an Epsom salt bath. There are many Epsom salts to choose from, including some for particular skin types and some with relaxing scents like lavender to help you to further relax during your bath. Simply run 1 cup of Epsom salt in hot water and soak your body for at least 20 minutes. This is a great way to put your body and mind at ease before bed!
Rest
Although achiness after the gym can be a sign you need to strengthen your muscles which resuming workouts can help, it is important to listen to your body and rest when you feel you need it. Severe pain after a workout might require you to take a few days off from the gym, which should be spent resting.
Ongoing or recurring back pain can be caused by many factors, including sports injuries or extreme wear and tear from prolonged periods of intense workouts. If you experience frequent back pain, you might consider a more permanent solution, such as Stem Cell Therapy from ThriveMD which treats back pain with state-of-the-art stem cell injections.
