It poses a great threat around the world and its impact is widely felt in the past decade.
It’s time that we do something about it now and protect our next generation from a degrading environment.
It’s good to know that today, more and more multinational companies are developing and implementing their own corporate sustainable development programs.
As an aspiring entrepreneur, how can you be eco-friendly in your own way?
Here are some eco-friendly business ideas you can start right now. Now only will you be helping in the environment, you’ll also earn money while doing so. Win-win!
1. Solar Power Supplier
This industry is in demand and still growing. Setting up solar panels may be expensive initially but the benefits far outweigh the cost. In the long run, it’s more affordable than electricity.
This is the reason why many customers are enticed to convert to solar – fewer electric bills.
As a business owner, you’ll have low maintenance cost so there’s no unnecessary spending after installation. Its technology keeps on advancing and improving which means better opportunities for you as an entrepreneur.
2. Organic Products
A healthy lifestyle is a thing nowadays so take advantage of it.
More and more people are embracing “all-natural” products. From vegetables, livestock, snacks, skincare products, and makeups, almost everything is organic or made from natural ingredients!
You can get into organic agriculture if you love farming. Or, you can source locally produced natural products and set up and organic store to sell directly to consumers.
When setting up this kind of store, it’s important to know who your market it and source high-quality products to gain customer loyalty.
3. Thrift Store
What seems to be useless for some might be useful for someone else.
You can sell items like used books, clothes, shoes, old furniture, collectibles, appliances, among others.
You can also set up an online store for your brick and mortar thrift store to reach more customers.
4. Recycled Products
Wastes have a huge negative impact on our society. Wastes release harmful chemicals and greenhouse gases from rubbish landfill sites.
Eliminate trash and earn from it.
Recycle bottles, cans, papers, and plastics.
Did you know that recycled plastics can now be used to make clothes? Not only that, but plastic bottles can also be turned into chairs and tables.
You can also make handcrafted products, toys or souvenirs made from papers, cardboards, or leftover wood. Unlock your creativity then sell them on Etsy, or eBay.
Using simple machines and by thinking out of the box, that trash can be converted into something economical and useful.
5. Upcycling furniture
Old and worn-out furniture can be transformed into other modern and chic stuff.
If you love designing and could create unique pieces from your woodwork skills, start from acquiring old furniture from thrift shops, then sell your masterpiece at a reasonable rate.
6. Composting
Composting is all about recycling materials, leaves, grass, manure, kitchen wastes and keeping them out of the landfills. It is nature’s way of recycling.
You can start composting at the comfort of your own home especially when you live outside the city where lands are sufficient and there are more storage spaces.
The target market is easy to identify. Landscaping companies, supply stores, professional gardeners and farmers use compost to keep their garden and farms healthy. Not to mention that organic products are so popular today, they prefer to make use of compost because it enriches the soil and reduces the need for chemical fertilizers.
Tax incentives may be available too since you help save the environment.
7. Ink Refill
Replacing printer cartridges every time it runs out is very expensive. This is why people shift to ink refilling services which is a good business opportunity.
Having a business shouldn’t just be for profits. Every business has a social obligation. Discourage single-use plastic and packaging.
Take the initiative. You can go green even with small capital investment. Start making money while protecting the environment.

Joy, I’ve heard some thoughts on recycling of plastics … and I haven’t come up with a solution … yet! As plastics are recycled they continue to break down. Ultimately they become nano plastic particles. Making them into clothing puts them into the washing machine, and ultimately into the water system. Making them into carpet grinds them into more particles and they are scattered around. Very similar to tires wearing on the highway and becoming small particles in the atmosphere. As I write this, I see plastics being compacted into a hard solid and then encapsulated in a cement that is hardened into limestone – a process known as “Hypercritical C02”. Or something such as this. Plastic should not be made into smaller particles. Wearing plastic is not the best thing for the human body, in my big fat opinion (BFO). I hope this helps … Sincerely, Elle
