At the start of each day, it can daunting when you consider how much work you have to get through, and often the amount you need to get through compared to how much time you have throughout the day can make it seem impossible. Being in charge of your own workflow is essential, as sometimes it can feel that your workflow is getting on top of you. But by following our tips and advice, you can ensure that you are optimizing your workflow and are getting the most work done in the time you have available, helping you to be more efficient and productive.
Prioritize Work
While you may already consider yourself to be good at prioritizing work and knowing which tasks are more important than others, the chances are there are still some changes that you could make. Often, when prioritizing work, we let our own preferences get in the way, so naturally you can find yourself completing tasks that you enjoy more, before handling the tasks that you don’t enjoy. Therefore, we would recommend that you work on the tasks you find least enjoyable first. This will help you work through them more quickly and efficiently.
Know When to Delegate
Sometimes it is important to know when you have too much in your workload and to admit that you are going to have to delegate some tasks to your colleagues. When you have a lot of work to get through, you can feel determined to get it all done, but in order to be as efficient and as productive as you can be, it is important that you accept when your workload is full. Trying to do more work than you can could result in you feeling burnt out and the tasks not being completed at a satisfactory level.
Use Helpful Online Assistants
The internet is full of helpful and useful online assistants that can take care of some of the more mundane tasks which can help you to optimize your workflow. From online calendar scheduling, to collaborative programs that allow an entire team to work from the same materials, you can find an online program to assist you with most tasks. For example, TimeTackle makes it simple to gather insights from your calendar to maintain timesheets automatically and submit invoices. You can also use it to calculate the mileage you have used from calendar events to make claiming expenses even easier.
Set Daily Goals
A great way to optimize your workflow is to set yourself goals at the start of each day that you want to complete before you leave work in the evening. This is a great way to really focus your mind on what you have planned for the day ahead. We also recommend that you write down these daily goals so that you can keep referring to them as the day goes on. Writing them down and having them on your desk will make you more likely to complete them than if they were just mental goals that you couldn’t visualize. You will also get some gratification for marking tasks off as completed on your list, making you more goal-oriented!
Utilize Your Commute
If you have a considerable commute to work each day, then we would recommend that you make the most of this time that you have. During your bus journey to work each day, you could set out the goals you have for the day ahead.
No matter how organized and productive you think you are being, there are always different ways that you can optimize your workflow and be more productive in the time that you have available, and these hacks should help you considerably.
