It’s now been a few months since the New Year began, and some people are struggling with their New Year’s resolutions. If you are one of them, there’s still time to get started or get back on track. Was one of your resolutions to save money this year, and if so, are you accomplishing your goal? There are lots of different ways you can trim your budget and make extra money to set aside for such a goal. So, how do you plan to save money this year?
Create a Budget
There’s still time to put your 2017 savings plan into action and blast away your debt. One of the first things to do, if you haven’t already done it, is to go through what you owe and create a budget. Start by tracking your spending and then cut out what you don’t need or aren’t using.
Did you know some bills can be lowered simply by placing a phone call or two? Hospital bills, cell phone bills, and some others may offer you a reduction if you call and plead your case.
If you aren’t investing, start. Put money into a 401K if it is offered by your employer. Open an investment account utilizing a robo-advisor if you lack time. Take a little bit of time to check out the different options available and get started.
Open a High Interest Savings Account
Do you already have an emergency fund? Is it drawing interest? If not, shop around to find an account that does. Make sure you add to it and build it sufficiently by setting up an auto deposit from your paycheck.
Save Around the House
Lower your thermostat, use cold water when you can, and unplug appliances not in use. These habits can and will save some money each year in your household budget.
Apps are used by many and if you have a smart phone you probably have a few too. Some apps can be used to help you save, so check out a few that can help, such as Digit. Download the app through Google Play and sign up for free.
Practice frugality with condiments by using all of them before tossing the bottle. For example, to use the last bit in the ketchup bottle, add a tiny bit of water and swish it around. Then add it to the pan when you are making spaghetti. It may only save pennies, but a penny saved is a penny earned.
Trim back on what you spend for beauty products in a similar way. Cut off tube ends to get the last bit from the inside. It can gain you a few more days or even weeks of use. Use a lip brush to use the last bit of lipstick down inside the tube. Another way to save: Do your own beauty treatments.
Use Coupons and Codes
You can use coupons and secret codes found in offers from places such as My Voucher Codes to save money on products you are already planning to buy.
As you can see, there are lots of ways to save money this year and there’s still time to start. What ways are you planning to save money this year?
